- Parksville also offers opportunities for shopping and has several very good restaurants. An excellent restaurant is an easy 15-minute walk from our home.
- The quaint seaside village of Qualicum Beach is a 15-minute drive away.
- Several excellent golf courses can be found nearby. Fairwinds Golf course is about a 15-minute drive away.
- The boats, the "Lady Rose" and the "Frances Barkley" will take you down Barkley Sound from Port Alberni to the quaint, pedestrian-only, seaside town of Bamfield.
- The world-famous Westcoast Trail out of Bamfield, via Port Alberni, can be reached from here.
- "Long Beach" in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve stretches between Ucuelet and Tofino.
- Various companies offer sea kayaking and fishing.
- Just one km from our home is Madrona Point. This is an excellent SCUBA diving site.
- All of Vancouver Island offers numerous opportunities for hiking. Mt.Washington, about 75 minutes to the north, beckons in winter for downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing.
